Ode to the Splendid Canary

The Splendid Canary, a splash of yellow cadence,

it flies through its forest, heedless of any hindrance.

It denotes an impatience,

excitement for a difference.

The Raucous Canary, screaming rage and vibrance,

into every heart, every person afraid of a world on fire.

It inspires defiance,

against the concrete mire.

The Free Canary, loose from a cage of strings,

tearing itself bloody, through the metal briar.

Red splatter on its wings,

pushed it even higher.

The Canaries, a flock of indigo omen,

streaming out of deadly nests, full of poison and greed.

Lungs filled with corrosion,

entrenched by corporate creed.

Can you hear the Canary’s cacophonous swansong?

I can, an intoxicating warning.

We’ll fly away together.
